Hi everyone, having a rough few days financially speaking........feeling stressed and wanna reach for the chocolate bars and sink into oblivion........lol

Had a massive gas bill over £300 ...........last years was only £185........so i cant work out why its so much higher, apart from price hikes nothing has changed in our usage........

Last night while i was on duty at work, someone put a brick through the window.......well 2 bricks to be exact, to make sure both panes of glass smashed in the double glazed unit........and then slashed my husbands tyres............all 4 of them, havent got a clue who it may be, perhaps an ex boyfriend of my daughters but at 16 its not something you expect is it??.........

Anyway insurance isnt much help what with excess and then increased premiums if we claim, may as well just find the money ourselves which isnt easy at present as its only me working...........

My question is, i want to get CCTV and a burglar alarm fitted, the kids are terrified and want to sell up and move, it seems a bit extreme and i cant afford to move right now..........it needs to be vandal proof and have a good vision at night as this is when we were targeted.........ive looked around and made a few phone calls but still cant narrow it down to a brand/product.........  Was going to have a company put one in but its around £1200 for the cctv and £700 for the burglar alarm, so it might be a better option to do it ourselves..........

Any help or suggestions would be great (didnt know if perhaps u were married to a security man), ive got 4 terrified children here that i leave with my disabled husband while i work at night, and my job can be stressful enough (im a nurse) without worrying that my family is safe at home............

Hi

Sorry to hear about your problems, not sure where you live. I live in Lancashire & hire an alarm for £10 a mth, they service it every yr & fix any problems I may have with it. Maybe it is something you could look at.

Not sure about CCTV I know wicks have them you can put up yourself but not sure how good they are. My sister had a colour one & said it was not good at night & says black & white are better.

Any way hope things get sorted & try not to reach for the chocolaate you will only feel worse. Mind you do seem to have done well, I have just started on monday so hope i do as well. I have done a shake diet before & lost 2 stone but have managed to sneak a stone back on. so need to lose it again.

Think you should speak to your local police and see what they would advise. You could end up spending tons of money and not getting the best results for it. They will def be in the know far more than me anyway. you soon.Hope things go better for

Aww.. Your poor thing.sorry to hear about your troubles.. Hope you resolve things soon. While you sort out cctv why not put dummy cameras up? They can be quiet good , if its kids they might back off a little.. I agree with heleneleven , speak to the police usually their advice is good . Hope you resolve it soon. Take care xxx

Hi Loobylou

What a dreadful time you're having - really hope things improve for you.  I'm in Hertfordshire so not too far from Sunny Essex.  I had some trouble a few years ago and woke up to a partially smashed window - double glazed and they only managed to smash the outside layer.  Police thought it was kids as they'd not tried to get in the house, just cause damage!

Anyway the point in my telling you this is that we had a dummy alarm box fitted and haven't had any trouble since (tough wood) can't remember the cost now but very cheap.

Try not to reach for the chocs - good luck xx
